Notepad is OK if your looking for a distraction free text editor .... But if you just starting out you should try something that helps(syntax highlighting and error alerts) you learn more coding. You don't need to buy a book or take course to learn Dreamweaver.
I would suggest trying Brackets it is free and very helpful for beginners, here is the link to the home page: http://brackets.io/index.html
And in case you were wondering it is made with ADOBE.
Look if you get brackets you will learn faster and catch mistakes quicker.
